History:: The Kingfish started life in the ECHL as the Erie (PA) Panthers, one of the 5 charter members of the league. After winning the first Brabham Cup, the Panthers struggled both on and off the ice. Sustaining a franchise with a tiny arena in a relatively small (though loyal) market proved to be too much of a challenge and the Panthers relocated to Baton Rouge for the 1996-97 season.
