History:: In 1990, the ECHL awarded one of three expansion franchises to Cincinnati. Almost instantly, the team rocketed to the top of the ECHL attendance standings. The Cyclones drew the most fans of any ECHL team in both the 1990-91 and 1991-92 campaigns. The latter season saw Cincy draw the highest average attendance in all of minor league hockey. The Cyclones were invited to join the more prestigious IHL for the 1992-93 season. They did so, but transfered their ECHL rights to Birmingham. The Birmingham Bulls are the namesake of a World Hockey Association team that competed in the late 70's. They draw occasional large (10,000+) crowds to their spacious arena, but average far less than their Cincinnati predecessors.
