History:: The Blizzard became West Virginia's second ECHL team in 1993, one year after the old Thunderbirds had moved to Wheeling. The Blizzard struggled from the start to win games and attract fans. While the on-ice product has improved in recent years, the Blizzard still draws poorly in a small market dominated by Marshall U. athletics. Despite these disadvantages, they have remained firmly rooted in Huntington and have developed fierce rivalries with Wheeling and nearby Columbus.
