History:: In 1996, the puck was dropped for the first time ever in the Magnolia State, as the Mississippi Sea Wolves took to the ice. Fans in the Biloxi/Gulfport area where the team is based took to the Wolves almost immediately, helping the first-year franchise to a top 5 finish in attendance, and further adding to the ECHL presence on the "I-10 Corridor." On the ice, the Wolves flirted with the division lead for most of their inagural seson, before stumbling late and being swept by Birmingham in the first round.
